Discussion Forum – Astrology vs Astronomy

Studying the stars and planets is Astronomy.

Astrology vs Astronomy is a topic covered in the bible but also has a thin line between them.  We read in Genesis:

14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. And God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. And God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.
(Gen 1:14-19 NAS) (emphasis added)

But we also read in scripture not to worship the sun, moon and stars:

15 “So watch yourselves carefully, since you did not see any form on the day the LORD spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire, lest you act corruptly and make a graven image for yourselves in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the sky, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water below the earth. “And beware, lest you lift up your eyes to heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and be drawn away and worship them and serve them, those which the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.
(Deu 4:15-19 NAS) (emphasis added)

What is Astrology and Astronmy?

According to Wikipedia:

Astrology comprises several systems of divination[1] based on the premise that there is a relationship between astronomical phenomena and events in the human world. In the West, astrology most often consists of a system of horoscopes that claim to explain aspects of a person’s personality and predict future events in their life based on the positions of the sun, moon, and other planetary objects at the time of their birth. Many cultures have attached importance to astronomical events, and the Indians, Chinese, and Mayans developed elaborate systems for predicting terrestrial events from celestial observations.

Astronomy is a natural science that is the study of celestial objects (such as moons, planets, stars, nebulae, and galaxies), the physics, chemistry, mathematics, and evolution of such objects, and phenomena that originate outside the atmosphere of Earth, including supernovae explosions, gamma ray bursts, and cosmic background radiation. A related but distinct subject, cosmology, is concerned with studying the universe as a whole.[1]

Discussion:

With this is mind, what is your opinion about Astrology and Astronomy? Are either allowed according to the Bible? If so, which is and which is not allowed? Are both wrong?

Please chime in on this subject in a friendly manner.

Obama and the Promise of Muslims

President Barack Hussein Obama

President Obama vowing that Syria would “cross a red line” by using chemical weapons is far from the only marker he’s laid down or promise he’s tried to keep since running for president in 2008.

The president has made more than 500 campaign-related promises alone. And just last week he re-drew a line in the sand for congressional Republicans flirting with shutting down the government over his Affordable Care Act and looking for spending cuts as part of a separate deal to increase the federal debt limit.

“That’s not happening,” Obama said. “I will not negotiate over the full faith and credit of the United States.”

The president has had mixed success in keeping that vow over the past few years.

Opinion:

Here is the problem people… We have to understand that lyging to buy time or get temporary peace is part of the commands of the Muslim religion.  Their God does not hold to the same standards of truth as the One True Elohim that we worship.  President Obama is a Muslim and thus is not bound by the scriptures of the Bible.  He will even lie to say that he is Christian.

Go back to scripture and see that “YOU SHALL KNOW THEM BY THEIR FRUIT.”  What fruit is the President showing?  What does his actions tell you about him?  These things are what we are to understand which is in his heart.

What do they know that they are not telling us about a down electrical grid? When you see articles like this, you have to ask yourself that question.  Many of these big businesses now some of the planned future events and get an edge on it.  Are you doing anything to prepare for a large scale electric outage?

We have all gotten so used to the high-tech life that to experience it without electric would be a serious challenge.  In 2004, hurricane Charley ripped through Southwest Florida leaving us without electric for several weeks.  Cooking, cleaning and drinking was a challenge.  However with the basic skills learned in the Boy Scouts, this was not a large challenge.  However, many neighbors had serious issues.

maybe it would be good for everyone to have a practice weekend without electric.  Can you go for a full weekend?

Walmart And Other Big Businesses Prepare For Downed Power Grid With Alternative Energies

Written by: Daniel Jennings Alternative Energy September 2, 2013

Many of America’s largest corporations now believe the electric grid is unreliable and are quietly developing the capability to operate without it.
Companies in a wide variety of industries are scrambling to produce their own energy. Retailers, technology companies, and banks now recognize the need for alternative sources of electricity.

The Bloom Box

Walmart, Google, eBay, Coca-Cola, Bank of America, FedEx, Safeway, Verizon, AT&T, Adobe, Honda, and Kaiser Permanente are among the corporate giants that have invested in the Bloom Box energy cell technology. A Bloom Box is literally a power plant in a box that uses next generation fuel cell technology to generate electricity.

Bloom Boxes don’t come cheap; each one costs around $800,000, but these companies are willing to invest in them. The companies claim they are going green or reducing pollution by purchasing such technology. What they’re also doing is ensuring that they can stay open when the electric grid goes down.

The interest in the Bloom Box indicates that these companies’ executives think that the electric grid is not dependable. Wal-Mart and Safeway want to keep their refrigerators and their cash registers running. Google wants to keep providing Internet even if the lights go out.

Companies Embracing Solar, Too

The Bloom Box is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to corporate efforts to have dependable power. IKEA has purchased 500,000 solar panels as part of an effort to produce 70 percent of its own electricity.
Harness the power of the sun when the power goes out
Walmart plans to put solar panels on 75 percent of its stores in California, a state with a notoriously unreliable electric grid. The company has made a deal with Elon Musk’s company Solar City to buy the panels.
Walmart claims it is motivated by concern for the environment, but we all know that the real “green” Walmart is interested in is money. The businesspeople that run Walmart wouldn’t be making a major investment in “alternative energy” if they didn’t think they might need it.

Grid Is No Longer Reliable

It is easy to see why corporations are looking into alternatives.
The Washington Post reported that the electric grid is pricier and less reliable. The number of power outages that affected more than 500,000 people in the United States more than doubled between 2004 and 2009, The Post’s Wonkblog noted.
The length of blackouts has also increased by around 20 percent in the last decade, Off The Grid News previously reported. Large companies simply can no longer afford to depend on the grid, so they are investing in the resources needed to generate their own power.
In August, the American Society of Civil Engineers graded America’s power grid a D+, Off The Grid News reported. The rating means the energy infrastructure is in “poor to fair condition and mostly below standard, with many elements approaching the end of their service life.” It further means a “large portion of the system exhibits significant deterioration” with a “strong risk of failure.

To Tzitzit Or Not To Tzitzit That Is The Question

Basic traditional version

Basic traditional version

Tzitzit (tsitith in Hebrew) or tassel on the corner of your garments is commanded of us in Numbers 15, but why is there such a resistance to this particular command?  Don’t eat Pig, ok.  Observe the Sabbath, ok.  Keep the appointed feasts, ok.  Wear tzitzits/tassels on the corner of your garments, what?  Are you nuts?  This can’t be right because we don’t wear garments that have corners so that must have been for when we had square bottom garments.  whine…whine…whine.

Next argument is how to make them after we accept the command.  Seven, eight, eleven and then twelve wraps is the requirement?  Seriously? Show me that in the scriptures.  They have to be all white until Messiah comes.  Really?  see the last statement buddy.  Tradition abounds with this command as well. Continue Reading →
