Discussion Forum – Sabbath

sabbath

The only commandment we are told to remember…But are we to forget it now?

This is a hotly debated topic with opponents entrenched on both sides,  We all can agree on the fact that Sabbath in our modern English is Saturday, in Spanish it is called Sabado, French Samdi, but all are the 7th day of the week.  In our twisted modern times, we are now trying to change the days of the week to make Monday the first day and thus Sunday would be the 7th.

From history, we see the change in the worship schedule by the Pope to Sunday and the pope even says that Sunday worship is the mark of his authority.  We also know from history that Jesus (Yeshua) kept the Sabbath according to the requirement of God’s commands.  finally from history we see that the early church also kept the original Sabbath.

Scripture:

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD (Yehovah) your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.” (Exo 20:8-11 NAS)

To them I will give in My house and within My walls a memorial, And a name better than that of sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name which will not be cut off.  Also the foreigners who join themselves to the LORD, To minister to Him, and to love the name of the LORD, To be His servants, every one who keeps from profaning the sabbath, And holds fast My covenant; Even those I will bring to My holy mountain, And make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be acceptable on My altar; For My house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples.”  (Isa 56:5-7 NAS)

Thus says the LORD, “Preserve justice, and do righteousness, For My salvation is about to come And My righteousness to be revealed. How blessed is the man who does this, And the son of man who takes hold of it; Who keeps from profaning the sabbath, And keeps his hand from doing any evil.” (Isa 56:1-2 NAS)

And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read.”  (Luk 4:16 NAS)

And he (Paul) was reasoning in the synagogue every Sabbath and trying to persuade Jews and Greeks.”  (Act 18:4 NAS)

Now it’s your turn

What is your opinion on the Sabbath and do you have scripture to support it?  Nothing outside of scripture can be used since it would be man’s opinion and we have had enough of that.  Should the Sabbath still be kept?  Is the Sabbath on Saturday or Sunday?  When did Jesus (Yeshua) change the Sabbath and how did He change it?

Godless modern society confirms Gen. 1

Reading Genesis 1, you can easily see a pattern repeating. God does a creative work each day. Then He declares it good. Then there is a morning and an evening, the (number) day. On a closer read there are a couple variations from that pattern. On the second day, God does not say it is good. To people who know nothing of God or His Word, the worst day of the week is Monday, the second day. When you get down to the sixth day, God proclaims it very good. What are those same godless people saying then? T.G.I.F. So we have two witnesses that the creation account is true and the sabbath is Saturday!

The day of worship was shifted from Saturday to Sunday by Constantine. It should not have been so, but here we are many centuries later. Shabbat is no longer celebrated in a church environment and this is okay. Shabbat is not only for the Jews, it is for anyone that picks up the Bible to read and understands what the Holy book says.

It is not sinful to do or not do. It is up to the individual. One can decide to celebrate the Shabbat in their homes or not. It all depends how they celebrate it. Shabbat is a reminder of things to come and it reinforces what we already believe.

In the new testament, the best place to study the holy Shabbat is the “Ten Virgins” verses. When the wise virgins go and meet the bridegroom this is The Shabbat. The foolish virgins are left behind because they did not have intimacy with God, they were probably active minus depth. Shabbat is best celebrated from a spiritual aspect of preparing the spirit and the soul for that special day YOM KIPPUR or Day of Atonement or The Rapture as most Christians call it – The Mother of all Shabbats.
If you are a Christian, you do NOT need to celebrate shabbat if you do not want to. You will not go to hell if you do not do this.

I know many Christians who do celebrate shabbat in private and they attend church on Sundays, this is okay. There is no right or wrong as long as it is not a religious celebration. If you do not understand the real significance of shabbat it is best to leave it alone. Under the New Testament, shabbat is more like a rehearsal of something that is coming.

      Hello Marie,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a nice response. I would have two questions:

      1. Why was the Sabbath the only command that we are asked to remember?
      2. How do we justify attending teachings that we no are false when we are trying to keep the Sabbath? A little leaven leavens the whole loaf.

        Hi,

It is the most holy day from God’s perspective. It is a rehearsal of things to come.
Orthodox Jews literally celebrate it weekly. A few among Christians celebrate it in their hearts. We remember that this day will come. It will be as real as our heart beats. I celebrate Sabbath from a prophetic perspective. We do not need to defend ourselves as far as the holy and godly requirements are concerned. Let every congregation follow their own. I never discuss Sabbath with anyone in my church. The main thing is that I know and believe in it 100%.

I attend a very good church where the feasts, lunar calendar, and other divine, blue print, heavenly structures are not mentioned. My church places the emphasis on other elements. It does not matter, this does not make them a bad church. They are not unscriptural, the latter is very important. When it comes to the subject we are discussing, one can rehearse in private at home and one does not need to rock the boat in one’s congregation.

        I hope this makes sense.

          Hello Marie,

Yes this makes sense as we each have to give an accounting for our choices. I too celebrate the Sabbath and feasts with the sighted moon and following the start of years as commanded in Exodus, which tells us when the first month is to be. However, I do not try to add traditions of men that invalidate the commands of YHVH as Yeshua/Jesus pointed out during His earthly ministry. Since no of us were there to know exactly how to keep them, I do what seems good to the Holy Spirit for me. Thanks again for your input.
