Sabbath, was it observed by the early church?

Good question!

Is there proof that the Sabbath was observed by the early church?  Did Yeshua (Jesus) oberve the Sabbath?  Where was the Sabbath changed to Sunday in scripture?  Is today’s Sunday worship the true Sabbath or is it obedience to the Catholic Pope?

Most people will point to scripture in Acts where Paul (Shaul) taught on the first day of the week and say…”See they got together on Sunday and so should we!”  Well there are a few truths that must be over looked in order to take this position.  There are a few questions that must be asked as well?  The scripture tell us to get off of spiritual milk and onto some meat, so let’s take a look.

Question 1:  When is the first day of the week?

We read in Genesis that the days start at sundown according to the scriptures.  Gen 1:5 “And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day (Gen 1:1 KJV)” again in verse 8, “And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day (Gen 1:1 KJV)” as well as verses 13, 19, 23, and 31.  Starting to see a pattern?  So this means that the day begins at sundown.  This means that Paul (Shaul) was teaching until mid night Saturday night, and they (the disciples) had gotten together for some food to fellowship and end the sabbath, not to change the sabbath.  Now we are feasting on some new meat!

So I guess we must ignore what really was happening in order for our “truth” to be correct.  I don’t know about you, but I believe that God’s (Yehovah’s) truth is far more important than my truth.  By the way, which book do you think Shaul (Paul) was teaching out of?  Matthew, Mark, Luke or John?  Maybe Romans or Hebrews?  NOT!  They were not even written then.  Shaul (Paul) would reason out of the Torah with the gentiles on the sabbath.

Question 2:  If Jesus (Yeshua) changed the sabbath to Sunday, why did he forget to tell us?

I guess that is why he is returning someday soon, to tell us “Opps, forgot to tell you all that we changed the sabbath to Sunday, sorry guys.” Yeah right!

If Jesus (Yeshua) said with his own words as written by Matthew in Chapter 5, verse 18 “For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. (Mat 5:18 NAU)” then I guess heaven and earth are long gone now and we are just imagining this whole thing we call life.  So there is no change to the Sabbath, Jesus (Yeshua) observed the Sabbath, the Sabbath was kept by the church fathers and then was changed for some reason.

Question 3:  How many commandments can we break without repenting and still get into Heaven?

Now here is a good question.  My understanding is that we can break all of them and repent, change out lives and head down a proper, holy path leading to righteous and a future salvation and all is good.  However the question is “without repenting” how many can we break?  What is your answer?  Let us know by commenting.  Is it a command to keep the Sabbath?  What is your thoughts.

Here is a very well done video by Door Post Ministries
